Managing Your Diet in Spite of Food Allergies

Posted on 27 November 2007 in Uncategorized by admin

If you are sensitive to many foods , or even to a small number of basic foods, it can be virtually impossible to avoid everything to which you react. If you have come via exclusion dieting and found this to be the case - do not despair, there are always alternatives and options. Except for very rare individuals, it is quite possible to manage your diet and live with multiple sensitivity food intolerance and mild allergies and respond to dietary management . Eat those foods seldom and in small quantities and you will helped not only to keep them in your diet but also maintain some measure of balance.

With food intolerance and mild allergies , the severity of the reactions often declines markedly if you do not eat a food constantly or in large quantities. The body seems to be able to build up to a certain type of tolerance. Therefore a doctor may recommend that you keep a good to which you are sensitive in your diet but keep eat it in moderation.

You may be recommended to leave a food out - for a long period of time, say a few months , six months , or even a year. Later try it again , even if you have severe reactions on testing. ( Doctors are only likely to recommend this when you have food intolerance rather than food allergy). The reason for this is that many people find that they regain tolerance for a food to which they have been sensitive after leaving it out for for a long time. You can then include the food in your diet, but again eating it in moderation and at intervals.

How to Deal With Food Allergies and Intolerance

Posted on 27 November 2007 in Uncategorized by admin

How you deal with any food allergy or intolerance that you have all depends on how severe your reactions are, as well as how many foods you react to :

The basic strategy and strategies are to avoid wherever possible the foods that bother you and to which you are sensitive to. If you have had a severe reaction or reactions to a food on exclusion dieting, you should leave it out of your diet totally. Most likely you will need no encouragement to do this. It is like a gout sufferer who after ingesting buttered shrimp with a resulting severe gout attack , not long after, decides that after all , it is not worth the price to ingest shrimp and that it better to stay away from this poison to him or her.

Use substitutes in your diet where possible. A doctor can advise you on nutrition and any need for vitamin and mineral supplements. You can also ask for a referral to a dietician which can be very helpful, especially if you are managing a baby or a child’s diet.
